I attended a conference the other day which provided coffee and pastries. I was pouring heavy amounts of cream into my coffee when I noticed a well-dressed black man watching me.
“I take it you don’t like coffee,” he remarked.
“No, I don’t like black coffee.”
“…”
“Oh, I mean, it’s not that there’s anything wrong with black coffee! Some of my best friends love black coffee and I’m cool with that! I love all colors of coffee! I just like cream because it makes it whiter–I MEAN CREAMIER! I LOVE CREAM! YEP THAT’S ME! CREAM LOVER!”
Way to go, Mona. Soooo not a coffee racist.

Ha ha!
this TOTALLY cracks me up. I’m glad I’m not the only one with foot-in-mouth disorder!
Oh dear! I feel your pain…
(I’ve been lurking here for awhile, BTW…)
AWESOME.
I like to mix it up. Life is fun with colors.
That is too funny. It makes me think though why would someone think you didn’t like coffee for putting in some cream? I mean it would be different if you were adding in something out of the ordinary like cranberry or orange juice or maybe chopped bananas. I mean cream is pretty acceptable, large amounts or not. Anyway I think the way you handled it was classic!
And just to note, I personally have a little coffee in my cream.
that’s too funny. I was in whole foods the other day and I asked for 1 pound of the rotisserie chicken. The cute, black employee asked me if I wanted “white or dark?” I hesitated and felt so weird and finally said, “um, white I guess” but I totally felt racist for wanting breast meat. LOL!
