I live in a house with men: two young boys and a husband. The one tool in my busy, full-time working mom arsenal that is a constant source of support regardless of the testosterone-fueled chaos is my makeup. It is all mine. I do not share lip gloss or foundation with my household. No one else gets to indulge in the magic of gel eyeliner and no one else appreciates the transformation that happens when mascara is properly applied. It is a luxury that is truly my own.
This year has been full of events that have required I shed my macaroni-and-cheese-stained mom gear, discard the fluffy hair scrunchy, slip into a pair of heels and take my face to the level of “Girl, You So Fine” that only makeup can achieve.
I gave a huge presentation at work in front of colleagues, which I had slaved over for months. While I knew my slides were intact and my quips might get a nod or a laugh, what solidified my confidence in what I was doing was how I looked. And let me tell you, I thought I looked phenomenal. I was wearing a designer dress that didn’t come from a thrift store or clearance rack. I had a new haircut. The lynch pin to my look was my makeup, the vehicle that would deliver the content I had worked so hard to prepare. I looked great, I felt great, and it really emboldened me at such a nerve-wracking time. I needed that glam, and makeup delivered.
Mascara is the most crucial element to my makeup artillery. To answer the perennial question about what you bring with you to a deserted island, mascara would be my sole glam item along with the very unglamorous but necessary items like a hand-crank radio and a machete. It’s that important to me. I could sacrifice my bag of lipsticks and powders, but my eyelashes need that attention whether I’m on a deserted island or in the dessert aisle of the grocery store.
I tested out COVERGIRL LashPerfection™ in black/brown, a color I have never tried in any mascara before. Usually I aim for a noir shade but I was surprised how it brightened up my eyes. I loved how quickly the color held to my lashes, and after a few applications, it instantly plumped them up. No spidery clumps needing extra refining. With other mascaras, particularly expensive ones, I usually have to use an eyelash comb after application. Now, I don’t have to worry about exhausting my precious time in the morning because I have a gunk on my face. I can just sweep and go, ready to handle two little boys who never seem to keep their hands off a just-made-up face.
